When should I apply to the Honors College?

While there is no absolute deadline for applying, students must have the application and all supporting materials on file with the Honors College by December 1 to maximize the possibility of being accepted and to be considered for scholarships. Submitting your application by this date should also ensure that you meet the Office of Admissions’ deadline for incoming freshmen to be automatically considered for academic merit scholarships.

How do I apply to the Honors College?

High School Seniors and Transfer Students can apply to the Honors College online or by sending a paper application.

To access the online application you will need to first complete the College of Charleston Undergraduate Admissions Application and check the box within the application indicating that you would like to apply to the Honors College. Once you have submitted the regular application, you will be sent a link to access the Honors Application. The user name and password will be the same as what you used for the regular application.

Current College of Charleston Students must apply to the Honors College by submitting a paper copy of the application. The application can be picked up from the Honors Center, 10 Greenway or downloaded here.

Please do not submit an electronic AND a paper version of your application.

Does the Honors Application require a fee?

There is no fee for the Honors application. The general College does, however, require a non-refundable processing fee of $45.00, or $35.00 if you apply online. Also, you must fill out both the application for general admissions to the College of Charleston as well as the application to the Honors College.

How many students are in the program?

There are approximately 700 students in the Honors College.

What are the required test scores to be considered for acceptance?

There are no cut-off scores for the Honors College, but the typical Honors student has an average SAT score of 1340, an average ACT score of 30, and is in the top 6% of his/her graduating class.

Do I need to include a form with my Letters of Recommendation?

Yes, we strongly encourage applicants to include our form with their letters of recommendation. The form can be downloaded here.

Can I use the College of Charleston essay question for my Honors College Application?

No, you cannot use the College of Charleston essay question on your Honors Application. You can, however, use your Honors College essay for the regular CofC application.

I’ve already sent my transcript and test scores to the CofC Admissions Office, should I also send copies to the Honors College?

Once our Admissions Office receives your application materials, the Honors College will have access to them. You do not need to send duplicate copies to the Honors College; however, doing so may ensure that your Honors College Application is completed more quickly.
